The nearest star to Earth, apart from our Sun, is Proxima Centauri. It is part of a triple star system called Alpha Centauri, which is located about 4.37 light-years away from us in the constellation Centaurus. Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf star and is slightly smaller and cooler than the Sun. Its proximity to us makes it the closest known star system to our solar system.
