Altair and Vega are both bright stars visible in the summer night sky. They are part of the prominent asterism known as the Summer Triangle. In terms of distance, Altair is relatively closer to us than Vega.

Altair, also known as Alpha Aquilae, is located approximately 16.7 light-years away from Earth. A light-year is the distance that light travels in one year, which is about 5.88 trillion miles (9.46 trillion kilometers).

On the other hand, Vega, also known as Alpha Lyrae, is located at a distance of approximately 25 light-years from Earth.

Therefore, Altair is closer to us than Vega by around 8.3 light-years. However, it's important to note that these distances are approximate and can vary slightly due to the motion of the stars through space.
