Astrology is not considered part of science for several reasons:

  1. Lack of empirical evidence: Astrology is based on the belief that the positions and movements of celestial bodies can influence human behavior and personality traits. However, numerous scientific studies have failed to provide conclusive evidence supporting these claims. The astrological predictions and explanations are often vague and can apply to a wide range of individuals, making it difficult to test its validity objectively.

  2. Lack of testability and falsifiability: Scientific theories must be testable and falsifiable, meaning they can be subjected to empirical observations and potentially proven false. Astrology often relies on general statements that can be interpreted in various ways, making it difficult to design rigorous experiments to test its claims. Additionally, when astrological predictions are tested scientifically, they have consistently failed to demonstrate any significant accuracy.

  3. Lack of a theoretical basis: Scientific fields are built on a solid theoretical foundation, which helps explain and predict phenomena. Astrology lacks a coherent theoretical framework that can explain the mechanisms through which celestial bodies influence human lives. It does not align with our current understanding of physics, biology, and other scientific disciplines.

  4. Subjectivity and confirmation bias: Astrology often relies on subjective interpretations and personal experiences. People tend to selectively remember events that confirm their astrological beliefs while ignoring or dismissing contradictory evidence. This confirmation bias can lead to a distorted perception of accuracy and reinforce unfounded beliefs.

  5. Lack of peer-reviewed research: While astrology has a long history, it has not been able to establish a strong presence in reputable scientific literature. The majority of astrological publications are found in non-peer-reviewed sources, and the claims made by astrologers have not withstood rigorous scientific scrutiny.

Science is a systematic and evidence-based approach to understanding the natural world. It relies on empirical observations, testable hypotheses, and peer-reviewed research to build knowledge and make reliable predictions. Astrology, on the other hand, is based on subjective interpretations and has not demonstrated the qualities necessary to be considered a scientific discipline.
