Did you know that DNA, the molecule that carries the genetic instructions for the development and functioning of living organisms, is incredibly compact? The DNA in each of your cells is tightly coiled and packaged into structures called chromosomes. If you were to uncoil and stretch out the DNA molecules in just one of your cells, it would extend to a length of about two meters (6.6 feet). Considering that the average human body contains trillions of cells, the total length of DNA in your body would be enough to stretch from the Earth to the Sun and back several times!
