The principle that energy cannot be created or destroyed is known as the conservation of energy or the first law of thermodynamics. According to our current understanding in physics, energy is a fundamental property of the universe that has always existed. It did not originate from anywhere nor did it come into existence at a specific moment.

The prevailing scientific hypothesis is that the universe began with the Big Bang, a singularity from which all matter and energy emerged. However, the concept of the Big Bang addresses the early expansion of the universe and the evolution of matter and energy within it, rather than the creation of energy itself. The origins of the universe and the fundamental properties of energy are still subjects of ongoing scientific research and investigation.
