Intersex is a term that refers to a variation in sex characteristics that do not fit typical binary definitions of male or female. While some individuals with intersex traits may possess reproductive organs of both sexes (hermaphroditism), it is important to note that self-impregnation, or self-fertilization, is not possible in humans.
In order to conceive, fertilization typically requires the contribution of genetic material from two different individuals. Although some organisms, such as certain plants and hermaphroditic animals like earthworms, have the ability to self-fertilize, this is not the case for humans.
Human reproduction generally requires the involvement of gametes (sperm and eggs) from two separate individuals. While some intersex individuals may possess reproductive organs of both sexes, they still require the genetic material from another individual in order to conceive a child.
