The movement of the Earth that causes day and night is its rotation on its axis.

The Earth rotates or spins on an imaginary line called its axis, which runs through the North and South Poles. As the Earth rotates, different parts of its surface are exposed to the Sun's light, while other parts are in shadow.

When a particular region on Earth is facing towards the Sun, it experiences daylight, and this is what we perceive as daytime. During this time, the Sun appears to rise in the eastern sky, reaches its highest point at noon, and then sets in the western sky.

On the other hand, when a region on Earth is facing away from the Sun, it is in shadow, resulting in darkness or nighttime. During nighttime, the Sun is below the horizon from the perspective of that specific location, and the sky appears dark.

The Earth takes approximately 24 hours to complete one full rotation on its axis. This rotation is responsible for the recurring cycle of day and night that we observe on our planet.
