Barium (Ba) is an element located in Group 2 of the periodic table. Elements in Group 2, also known as the alkaline earth metals, have two valence electrons. Therefore, barium has two valence electrons in its outermost energy level or valence shell. These valence electrons are involved in chemical bonding and determining the reactivity of barium.
