Gravitational waves can indeed be detected on Earth despite the fact that they cannot pass through the Earth's atmosphere. The detection of gravitational waves involves the use of specialized instruments known as gravitational wave detectors. These detectors are designed to operate on the Earth's surface or in space, away from the interference of the atmosphere.

There are currently two main types of gravitational wave detectors: ground-based detectors and space-based detectors.
