Waves that have little or no effect on land are commonly referred to as offshore waves or open water waves. These waves occur in the open ocean, away from the coastline, and typically do not interact significantly with the land or coastal features. They can be generated by wind, seismic activity, or other factors and propagate across large bodies of water without causing significant changes to the shoreline or coastal areas.
